Hip gauges: 3D modelling and 3D printing

Technology: Polyjet
Device: Stratasys Objet30 Pro
Material: VeroClear

Centrum pro bezpečný stát z.s. uses a 3D learning module, which includes a 3D figure of a firefighter. Thanks to 3D printing technology, the figure materialized into an interesting gift for the partners and clients of the Centre. The model of the firefighter from the learning programme has gained a new feature in the form of a pen holder.

The 3D model of the firefighter was already created, among other things, for the purpose of the tutorial. Before the actual printing, the model had to be modified so that the printout would perform its function while saving material. Some parts of the original computer model did not meet the minimum thickness for 3D printing. Specifically, the saw that the firefighter holds in his hand. With the original thickness, there was a risk that a part of the saw could break off if handled less deftly. The firefighter figure was modified to be hollow and there was a substantial saving in material. It was printed on a ProJet 660 Pro plaster printer and the sample photos show the difference before and after post-production. By modifying the models after printing, they gain realistic colour tones and greater resistance to damage.
