Serial production of a part for an internal combustion engine

MSR Engines
Technology: MJF
Device: HP Jet Fusion 4200
Material: PA12

The first Czech application of HP Multi Jet Fusion technology for serial production of functional parts.

MSR Engines is an innovative company that develops internal combustion engines for sports such as go-karts and various other motorsport disciplines. Martin Šula, the company founder, is a versatile athlete, who let himself be coaxed into surfing, whereafter he imagined combining a traditional surfboard with an internal combustion engine. The result of this idea is the unique, motorized Jetsurf surfboard.

MSR Engines turned to 3Dees with a request to mass-produce a specific part for the engine cooling system. The company already had experience with 3D printing and successfully uses FDM technology for prototyping. However, in terms of mechanical properties and speed, FDM is less suitable for the production of hundreds or thousands of parts with high demands for water and airtightness.

We proposed the use of Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) technology with PA12 material. First, we printed a test sample and then a batch of 400 pieces for direct mounting in motors. The company is highly satisfied with the result of serial production on the HP Jet Fusion 4200. The parts are highly resistant, chemically and mechanically stable even with the demanding conditions of exposure to seawater and sunlight. And now, with the development of new materials, new applications at Jetsurf are being considered.
