microArch S150: Micro 3D printing that makes sense outside the lab

20.03.2026

Micro 3D printing no longer belongs only to specialised research centres. With the increasing miniaturization of products - from medical devices to electronics - it is becoming a practical tool for development and production. But the key question remains: how to achieve high precision without complex infrastructure and difficult setup?

The answer is the new microArch S150 series from Boston Micro Fabrication, which delivers micro-precision manufacturing in a compact, easy-to-use solution.

When micrometers make the difference

At the heart of the device is Projection Micro Stereolithography (PµSL) technology, which enables optical resolution up to 25 µm and very high accuracy in the XY plane. In practice, this means the ability to produce extremely fine structures, whether microfluidic channels, tiny mechanical elements or complex development components.

Importantly, this level of detail is not traded off for lower quality. On the contrary, the resulting parts retain very good surface quality and high repeatability, which is essential for functional testing and real-world deployment.

From development to production without changing technology

One of the main advantages of the microArch S150 series is its versatility across the entire process. The technology is suitable for both rapid prototyping and smaller production runs without the need to change equipment or manufacturing approach.

The S150 Ultra variant contributes to this , achieving print speeds of 4-12 seconds per layer and up to 9x higher productivity. Compared to the basic version, it allows significantly faster printing while maintaining the same part quality. This enables a smooth transition from development to production without compromise.

Simplicity that saves time

A major benefit is the operation of the device itself. microArch S150 is designed to minimize the need for operator intervention. Complex calibration is eliminated and most settings are predefined.

The user thus works with an intuitive touch interface and can start printing almost immediately. This approach significantly reduces the time required to put the technology into practice and reduces operator effort.

Controlled environment for sensitive applications

Micro manufacturing is often not just about precision, but also about the cleanliness of the environment. This is crucial in the fields of healthcare, microfluidics or research, for example.

The microArch S150 therefore integrates air filtration with HEPA13 and UV-C sterilization of the print area. These features help to reduce in-process contamination and extend the possibilities for use even in more demanding applications.

Flexibility that opens up new applications

The device supports a wide range of photopolymer materials, including those with higher viscosity. This allows the properties of the resulting parts to be tailored to specific requirements - whether mechanical resistance, detail or functionality.

This flexibility is one of the reasons why the microArch S150 has applications across a variety of fields, from microfluidic system development to biomedical applications to electronics.

Technology that fits into real-world operations

The form of the device itself is also an important aspect. It is not a bulky industrial system, but a compact solution (approx. 817 × 485 × 460 mm, weight 70 kg) that can be placed directly in an office, laboratory or development department. In certain cases, it can also be integrated into controlled environments, for example in laboratory or cleanroom environments

This greatly simplifies the availability of micro 3D printing and allows companies to have the entire process directly under their control.

Micro 3D printing as a real tool

The microArch S150 shows that micro 3D printing is no longer just a technological curiosity, but a practical tool for everyday work. It allows to speed up development, reduce iteration costs and at the same time pushes the boundaries of what can be produced with 3D printing.

If you're working with parts where micrometers make the difference, this is a technology that deserves attention.
